Ford is one of the toughest automotive brands around. Therefore, when the brand selects a spokesperson, you can bet your bottom dollar that the spokesperson is going to be tough as well. Case in point, Ford just got who is arguably the toughest guy in Hollywood to serve as its spokesperson.
Ever wondered what a V8 Ford F-150 that runs on propane would be like?
This year Ford plans to answer that question by offering a conversion package that would allow the full-size 2016 Ford F-150 alternative gas options. A mere $315 factory-installed package would allow the 5-liter V8 engine to burn compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane, making the F-150 the only half-ton pickup with that ability.
“We expect the gaseous-fuel prep package will be even more popular than it was on the 2014 F-150 with the 3.7-liter V-6 engine,” said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager.
That’s because Ford surveyed likely propane users and overwhelmingly said they’d employ the cheap, clean gas system in fleet-truck applications. Ford said the towing capacity will remain the same as its regular gas counterpart and hauling would only be affected by the weight of the aftermarket tanks and fuel lines that can be installed at a cost of $7,000 to $9,500.

Ford has never been an auto company to shy away from lofty goals. Their latest ambition? To sell 700,000 Ford F-150 models—a goal that they’re already well on their way to achieving, thanks to the enormous popularity of the model.
There are two different assembly plants working on F-150’s, one in Dearborn, Michigan, and another in Kansas City, Missouri. Between the two, Ford will likely be able to build the 700,000 units in just a single year.
New technology in the Dearborn and Kansas City plans should make the Ford F-150 production smoother, faster, and generally more efficient than ever, including a new paint shop that detects dirt and a fleet of 500 robots to join panels and handle other small tasks.
The automaker reportedly sold 470,000 F-150’s in 2014, without even counting the other members of the F-Series (like the F-250 and F-350), which bring their 2014 F-Series sales easily over one million. It’s no wonder they’re trying to speed up production to meet this incredible demand.
Truck Trend has chosen an excellent and worthy recipient for the magazine’s first annual Truck of the Year award. The Ford F-150, a new truck for a new generation of truck buyers, was named the 2015 Truck of the Year. There are many reasons the truck is worthy of the award—from its groundbreaking and progressive design, to its efficiency, power and style.
“Ford has found a sweet spot in the half-ton pickup segment, delivering a compelling mix of efficiency and capability, while still delivering an enhanced driving experience that American consumers demand,” said Sean P. Holman, Truck Trend content director. “What we put these trucks through was nothing short of grueling, and it was the F-150 that consistently impressed our experts.”
Ford was already crushing the competition in the full-size truck segment, but this new version of the F-150 simply pushes the bar even higher—and puts the Ford lineup farther ahead of the competition. With an EcoBoost engine, a rearview camera, BoxLink design, and more, the truck has everything. Come see us here at Shults Ford of Wexford to learn more.
Which state buys more pickup trucks than any other? If you guessed Texas, you are correct! At the recent Texas Truck Rodeo held by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA), the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 was given the prestigious Truck of Texas award.
This is the top honor given out at this event, and is awarded after rigorous testing. The judges test drove 75 vehicles from 18 different brands before naming the winners.
“TAWA members are among the first to experience the all-new F-150’s breakthrough innovations and best-in-class capabilities, features that will help our hardworking customers improve their productivity,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, The Americas, in a statement. “It is an honor to again be named Truck of Texas. We are committed to continuously improving America’s favorite trucks.”
With this win, Ford has taken home nine of the last 12 Truck of Texas awards for its F-Series Trucks.
At this year’s event, the F-150 wasn’t the only Ford vehicle to win. The 2015 Ford Transit was also named the Commercial Vehicle of Texas. The Transit replaced the best-selling E-Series line of vans and offers improved fuel efficiency and flexibility with a variety of body styles and capabilities.
