Car sales have a tendency to slump a bit during the winter months, and to help reduce inventories, many auto manufacturers shut down for a few weeks during the summer. Ford’s summer shutdown has traditionally lasted two weeks, but because of customer demand for some of Ford’s newest cars, the summer shutdown will be shortened to only one week.
This means that Ford will produce about 40,000 extra units this year to meet customer demand for the F-Series trucks, Edge, Escape, and Explorer.
“To meet surging customer demand for our top-selling trucks and utilities, we are continuing to run our North American facilities during the traditional two-week summer shutdown in order to add close to 40,000 units,” said Bruce Hettle, Ford vice president, North America Manufacturing, in a statement. “Six of our assembly plants will build for an additional week in order to ensure we’re getting more of our vehicles into dealerships.”
Ford’s North American manufacturing facilities will shut down from June 29 through July 10 to building maintenance and machine retooling. However, the Chicago, Dearborn Truck, Kansas City, Louisville, and Oakville assembly plants will only shut down during the week of June 29.

The football season is ramping up, and what could be a better way to bond with your family than to bring everyone to see a game?
Taking the family around takes a dependable and capable vehicle, which is why at Shults Ford we recommend the Ford Edge, Escape, or Explorer, depending on how many kids you need to carry around.
Speaking of kids, the North Allegheny High School football team is currently 1-2 in wins-losses. They need all the support they can get! With one of the vehicles mentioned above, you’ll be able to bring the whole family to the game and all the football gear you need if one of your kids is on the team.
But the Edge, Escape, and Explorer aren’t just great people-movers. They also ensure the utmost safety with active technologies like BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert and forward collision warning with brake support. They also get great fuel economy, so all those trips to the local game will barely make a dent in the fuel gauge!
The Ford F-Series has done it again! As we all know, the Ford F-Series has been the number one truck in America for the past 37 years and it doesn’t look like that will be changing anytime soon! The F-Series saw its best April sales in the United States since 2006. To top off the success of the F-Series, the Ford Explorer had a banner month as well, with April sales being the best they have seen since 2005!
“F-Series and Explorer showed considerable strength in April, posting their best results in almost a decade. We also saw another breakout month for Fusion, with continued strength in the western region. Overall, industry sales continued the rebound from January and February and are on a path of steady growth” boasted John Felice, Ford’s vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service.
Ford EcoBoost continues to play a huge role in the increase in sales, with it being 42% of the truck’s overall retail engine’s sold. A total of 63,387 Ford F-Series were sold in April and we hope to see those numbers continue to rise for the month of May.
