New Study Shows Sports Cars Are a Great Way to Feel Good

We all love spending time with our loved ones, watching an exciting show, and taking part in fun activities. But, new research from Ford shows that sports cars are a great way to feel good, especially if you drive them every day.

According to experts, “buzz moments” play a key role in our overall well-being. In Ford’s study, volunteers were hooked up to monitoring equipment that would track their heart rate and other biometric details to see which activities gave them the most “buzz moments.”

They then took part in activities like riding a roller coaster, sharing a passionate kiss with a loved one, taking a salsa dancing class, and driving a Ford performance car. Of all of these and other activities, only riding a roller coaster delivered more excitement than driving a sports car.

“A roller coaster may be good for a quick thrill, but it’s not great for getting you to work every day,” said Dr. Harry Witchel, Discipline Leader in Physiology. “This study shows how driving a performance car does much more than get you from A to B – it could be a valuable part of your daily wellbeing routine.”

To try this experiment for yourself, you can test drive a thrilling Ford Mustang or other fun-to-drive Fords right here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford.

Ford Mustang Was Best-Selling Muscle Car of 2017

The muscle car segment is one that is dominated by American nameplates: the Chevrolet Camaro, the Dodge Challenger, and, of course, the Ford Mustang. While all three of these muscle cars are household names, one stands alone as America’s favorite: the Ford Mustang.

The numbers back up that claim, with the Ford Mustang earning the title of best-selling muscle car of 2017. In fact, the Mustang continues to earn its best-selling title year after year.

The Dodge Challenger, though popularized in recent years by its Hellcat model, could not come close to the Ford Mustang. In fact, Dodge only sold 64,537 units of the Challenger in 2017.

The Camaro fared better than the Challenger, but not by much. In total, Chevy moved 67,940 Camaro muscle cars off dealership lots last year.

So how many Mustangs did Ford sell here in the United States in 2017? A whopping 81,866. That’s 13,926 more than Mustangs sold than Camaros and 17,329 more than the Challenger.

Some of the success can be attributed to the updated 2018 model, which arrived here at Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford late last year. Going into 2018, Ford hopes to continue the momentum with the Bullitt edition model and a supercharged Shelby GT500.

First 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang Fetches $1 Million

Ford has auctioned off its very first 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang, VIN# 001, at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. The winning bid came in at a cool $1 million, and the proceeds will benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the country’s leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.

The proud new owner of the first production Ford Shelby GT350R will get to choose from any of the available colors and options.

The Shelby GT350R was designed to be Ford’s most powerful supercar yet, capable of delivering on-track performance never before seen from a Mustang. Improved aerodynamics, updated chassis engineering, and light-weighting are factors that contribute to the GT350R’s impressive performance.

“The Shelby GT350R is a world-class car, the best performing Mustang that we have ever built,” said Raj Nair, Ford Group Vice President, Global Product Development.  “We are thrilled to donate the first retail production Shelby GT350R to JDRF for auction.  When this car crosses the auction block it should raise a tremendous amount of money for a great charity.”

And that it did. According to motorauthority.com, this Barrett-Jackson auction sold 1,600 cars, with a total value reaching more than $130 million. That marks a new record in the auction house’s 44-year history. The auction of the first Ford Shelby GT350R certainly helped achieve that record.

Here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, we couldn’t be more excited for the all-new 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang. Stop by to learn more!

Hennessey Produces a Fine-Tuned 2015 Mustang with 717 Horespower

The American performance tuner Hennessey got a little power-crazy and created a version of the Mustang with 717 horsepower. But we here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford think power-crazy is a good thing. The supercharged Hennessey HPE700 demonstrates what one can do when working with quality products.

In order to generate that astonishing 717 horsepower, the Mustang’s V-8 was fitted with a high-performance supercharger. The fine-tuned 2015 Mustang was also given a new stainless steel exhaust, uprated fuel injectors and pumps, ECU flash, carbon-fiber bodywork, and lightweight 20” alloy wheels.

According to Top Gear, “Hennessey is planning a ‘high performance upgrade program’ for the base Mustang’s 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder engine. Presumably through the addition of a second 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder engine [as well].”

Unfortunately, Hennessey is only making 500 of the HPE 700s. However, the raw power of the 435 horsepower 2015 Mustang production model is still impressive. To test drive the iconic muscle car, stop by Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford.

Upgraded 911 Assist to Come in 2015 Ford Mustang

As we have stated previously, the 2015 Ford Mustang is set to debut with a rather expansive list of new safety and technological features, such as the knee airbags mentioned previously.  So what is the newest reveal of the 2015 Mustang?  Well this time, it’s a technological feature, but it very well could save your life in the event of an accident.  An upgraded 911 Assist will be coming with the new Mustang.

So what does an upgraded 911 Assist mean?  We know that the 911 Assist offered previously would make a phone call, through a Bluetooth-connected phone, should you become involved in an accident.  Already sounds like a pretty good deal, so how can it get better?  With the upgraded 911 Assist, first responders and emergency personnel can learn whether the crash involved a front, side, rear, or even a rollover impact.  It will also inform emergency personnel on how many seat belts were in use at the time of the crash and whether the airbags deployed or not.

David Hatton, the global project leader with Ford Connected Services, said, “Sync [911 Assist] will only broadcast relevant information to save time, and it constructs a very efficient message for the operator.  After the introductory message, the voice line opens automatically and occupants can speak directly with the operator via Sync’s hands-free functionality.”

At Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, we think anything that can help emergency personnel and first responders help the victims of a crash more quickly and efficiently is a good thing.  What do you think?

The 2015 Ford Mustang Will Introduce Knee Airbags to the World

knee airbags

Ford has been rolling out all kinds of tidbits on the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, but the sleek design to how the vehicle handles, and everything in between, but the newest leak is just as exciting, if not more exciting, than the rest.  The 2015 Mustang will come standard with the newest safety feature from Ford: an innovative new glovebox-mounted airbag that will keep the knees of its passengers protected in the event of a crash.  These knee airbags will be available on all versions of the 2015 Mustang and it is the first of Ford’s expansive lineup to receive the new safety feature.

The knee airbags are actually pretty simple.  They are virtually invisible to the passenger and compared to the tradition airbag, the knee airbag is 65% lighter and is able to use an inflator that is 75% smaller.  We aren’t sure whether or not the knee airbag will be added to other Ford vehicles in the future, but if the knee airbag proves effective, then at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, we are sure they will be coming standard in the future!  What do you think of knee airbags?  Let us know in the comments below!

Are Wheels Overrated?

wheels

The answer is a resounding no.  At Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, we would never recommend doing what the individual in the below video has done, especially when it comes to such an amazing vehicle like the Ford Mustang.  No, wheels are not overrated and we highly recommend driving with all four of them intact, not just three.

Before you actually watch the video, what you see is not an image of a broken down Mustang on the side of the highway or one that’s just hanging out in a junkyard.  Nope, this 3 wheel Mustang is actually making its way down the highway at normal highway speeds.  Wait, what?

According to the New Daily News, this happened in Texas.  We aren’t sure where exactly you need to go in such a rush that you are willing to get there in a car with three wheels, but apparently this individual was in hurry.

Like we already stated, we strongly go against driving any vehicle that has less than the normal amount of wheels it should have, but the below video is rather entertaining.  If you are in need of a new set of wheels, don’t hesitate to contact us at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford to see what we can do for you!

2015 Ford Mustang Convertible to Relive History

The last 50 years have proved to be amazing when it comes to the Ford Mustang.  This classic American vehicle has made it half a century and is still just as popular as it was when the 1965 Ford Mustang made its debut.  To celebrate the past 50 years, Ford has decided to make history with the ‘Stang.  Or maybe it would be better to say that they are reliving history.

The 1965 Ford Mustang convertible prototype was introduced to the world when it sat atop the Empire State Building in New York City during the 1964 World’s Fair.  This year, Ford has plans to do the exact same thing with the 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible.

“New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and it’s the place where the Ford Mustang story began 50 years ago.  We’re thrilled to be visiting the architectural landmark that has been the heart of the Manhattan skyline for 83 years with the newest generation of the car that is the soul of Ford Motor Company,” said Mark Fields, Ford chief operating officer.

Not only will the 2015 Ford Mustang convertible be reliving history, it will be making it as well.  From all of us at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, happy 50th anniversary to America’s favorite car and here’s to another 50 wonderful years!

Fifty Year of Mustang Commemorated in Pinball Machine Game

Stern Pinball is celebrating 50 years of the Ford Mustang in its own way: by creating three modern versions of a Mustang-themed pinball game. It’s been ages since we at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford have even looked at a pinball machine, but we’re definitely looking forward to playing the new, all-things-Mustang game.2014 Ford Mustang

What makes this pinball game so much better than other special edition machines? It features the handiwork of Ford GT designer, Camilo Pardo; and as for how it operates, Stern Pinball’s executive VP for Game Design, George Gomez, said, “You’ll be collecting Mustangs; you’ll be modifying Mustangs; you’ll be racing Mustangs; you’ll be doing all the things that people do with Mustangs.”

We mentioned three versions:

The game’s first version, the pro-level, is intended for arcades and public spaces. The machine is on display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.

The second version is the premium level. It will include additional art to attract pinball machine collectors.

The third version of the machine is the special edition. This edition is signed and highlights the 50th anniversary with artwork of the 1965 and 2015 Mustangs.

Discounting the pro-level’s price tag at just under $5,000, which version of the Mustang Pinball Game would you choose?
